Girl scout patches are a reminder of an affiliation with an extraordinary organization. The Girl Scouts of the USA are a youth organization that prepares girls for life and helps them build confidence and character. They learn to be leaders and model citizens through activities like community service, learning how to give first aid, camping, and more.

While badges are awarded for learning a new skill, the girl scout patches are awarded for participating in programs, activities and other fun stuff that girl scouts routinely do. They are a reminder of the good time they had at such an esteemed organization.

It all began on March 12, 1912, when Juliette Gordon Low, also known as Daisy, called out a Girl Guide meeting of 18 girls in Savannah, Georgia.Low had met Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Boys Scouts Association in 1911. She wanted to start a similar movement in which girls could participate and prepare for life.

Custom patches came into existence to make the journey of a girl scout more fun. The idea of earning a patch that they could proudly flaunt on their uniforms made the activities more exciting and competitive. To receive girl scout patches, the girls must sign up to their local girl scout chapter and then gather in the neighborhood or even their school. Girl scouts also have weekly and monthly meetings where they work out the tasks ahead and work towards achieving them as a group. At the end of it all, there is a patch waiting for them.

While badges go in the front of the uniform, custom patches are always on full display on the back of a girl scout uniform and are a great way to remember a girl scout event in the local area. All these patch programs have some message that contributes to their journey as a leader. Each local council has a different patch and documents the unique experiences of a girl scout.
